Gedson Fernandes looks set to join Tottenham this month
Tottenham have beaten off competition from Manchester United and West Ham and are expected to have the option to buy him after his loan.
talkSPORT.com takes a closer look at the man being tipped to head to England this month…
Who is Gedson Fernandes?
Fernandes is one of the hottest prospects in Portugal
Fernandes started his youth career at SC Frielsas in 2008 before joining the Benfica academy a year later.
In 2017, he progressed to the Benfica B team and took just one year to force his way into the first team.
The 20-year-old has since made 23 Premier Liga appearances for The Eagles, earning a call-up to the Portugal senior squad in the process.
Fernandes has featured for Portugal at every youth level from U14 upwards and now has two senior caps to his name.
It’s safe to say he’s regarded as one of the brightest young talents in a country renown for producing plenty.
Style of play
Fernandes is the definition of a box-to-box midfielder. Think Paul Pogba, Yaya Toure, Mousa Dembele.
He is unstoppable with the ball at his feet, able to beat players in the middle of the park due to a combination of close control and power.
Like Pogba, Fernandes can instantly turn defence into attack thanks to his electrifying pace and dribbling technique.
Plus, the youngster packs a ferocious strike, making him a serious threat from distance.
He’s also capable defensively. The Portuguese isn’t afraid of a challenge and presses tirelessly.
