Harry Kane is set to start for England against Denmark tonight as Gareth Southgate dismissed talk of a club vs country row over the striker.
The Tottenham star was a 66th-minute substitute in Englands 2-1 Nations League win over Belgium on Sunday after being named on the bench due to muscle fatigue.
Kane is expected to lead the line for England against Denmark at Wembley
Reports have subsequently emerged of a possible fall-out with Tottenham and manager Jose Mourinho over the star’s fitness, but such claims have baffled Three Lions boss Southgate.
He insists Kane has no injury, is fully fit and ready to lead England out at Wembley tonight, with England taking great care of their captain.
“I’m puzzled by the furore, really,” he said. “We have spoken medically to medically (between respective departments) as we do with every player if ever they miss training.
“There are conversations on every player with every club pre-camp so we know exactly the condition. In the camp there is constant communications between all the medical teams.
“When Harry missed a couple of days last week, everybody was across that. Everybody knew the plan. We know there’s no injury.
“I don’t really understand the story. He would have started the last game but did not have enough training time and was fine during the game, so is fit and available.
“He has been fully fit since the end of last week, just before the last game. He has not had an injury, he was feeling muscle soreness which can happen to athletes but there was no injury at any point.”
“We don’t risk players, my priority is always the welfare of players.”
O’Hara: Everton and Spurs could challenge for Premier League title this season
Before the international break, Mourinho insisted he trusted Southgate to protect his Tottenham stars given their hectic start to the season.
Spurs have played four Premier League matches, three Europa League games and once in the Carabao Cup since September 13.
Mourinho said: You know, I believe that Gareth and [assistant] Steve [Holland], they care about the players.
“I don’t think they want to be connected with something that can be a consequence of this week and the three international matches, which is obviously too much, especially for my players.
“So I don’t speak with Gareth or even with Steve, and of course with Steve I am very good friends. I just let them do the job in the way they want to do it with the freedom they deserve.”
