Assam schools will reopen on September 21, 2020 as per Unlock 4.0 guidelines. The state government has issued SOPs and guidelines for reopening schools on Monday.

Assam government has decided to reopen schools as per Unlock 4.0 guidelines from September 21 onwards. The schools for Classes 9 to 12 will reopen in the state on a voluntary basis. The state government has issued guidelines and SOPs, adhering to COVID19 protocols for reopening schools in Assam.
As per the order issued by the principal secretary to the state secondary education department B Kalyan Chakravarthy, the SOP will come into effect from September 21 and shall be operative for the next 15 days. Eventually, the SOP will be modified after observing the situation for 15 days starting from September 21.
The general guidelines issued in the SOP states that students from class 9, 10, 11, and 12 will be allowed to come to schools and colleges, while all other classes will remain suspended. Classes would be conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for Class 9 and 12 only. Other than this. Classes 10 and 11, classes would be conducted on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
While speaking to TOI, Chakravarthy said, “We will be holding regular conferences with deputy commissioners, after reopening the institutions. Data of all students will be carefully monitored. This is the first major step to take education back on track after the breakout of COVID19.”
Each class would be divided into two batches for classes having more than 20 students. The class for the first batch of students would be conducted from 9 am to 12 noon and classes for the second batch of students will be from 1 pm to 4 pm. As per the SOP, school authorities will have to ensure that students of the first batch are sent back home before the commencement of the classes for the second batch.
Teachers will severe co-morbid conditions such as chronic kidney disease, type-two diabetics with a severe condition, heart surgery, and suffering from cancer will be exempted by the head of the institutions from attending schools, the SOP said.
Meanwhile, J&K schools will reopen on a voluntary basis from September 21, 2020. Classes 9 to 12 students will have to attend schools. On the other hand, the Goa school reopening decision is still on hold. The state government will decide on reopening schools on October 2.
