The death toll of a coronavirus outbreak sweeping China has hit 80, with 2,744 people infected worldwide.
China’s National Health Committee released the newest figures Sunday evening EST, that also confirmed 461 severe cases.
The virus is thought to have originated at a wet market in the city of Wuhan, and has spread to at least 12 other countries: Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, Canada, and the US.
Five US cases have been reported so far: A man in his 30s in Washington state, a woman in her 60s in Chicago, two people in California, and one person in Arizona. Information about the people in California and Arizona wasn’t public at the time of writing. Three patients in France, announced on Friday, are the first in Europe.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that the virus is spreading faster and poses a “grave threat” to the country.
