Fabio Quagliarella has revealed that he went to the camera to celebrate with the fans at home, as his brace helped Sampdoria beat Hellas Verona.
A penalty in the 86th minute decided the game for the Blucerchiati, when Quagliarella completed the turnaround within 10 minutes at the end of the second half.
He revealed it was a difficult moment at the Marassi and claimed it was a bigger “disadvantage” for the home side on Sunday.
“At the end of the first half, it was very hard. Verona are the surprise and they’re playing very well,” Quagliarella told the club’s official website. “We reacted well, drawing and scoring and it allowed us to conquer three very heavy points.
“I knew it was an important penalty, also because the others won. The game had some surreal contours. We were always at a disadvantage, especially here at home.
“This situation is not easy, to play behind closed doors is a different sport. I celebrated with the fans in front of the camera, to dedicate our goal to the fans.
“I usually celebrate with them, especially when I score under Curva Sud. Since there were no spectators, I went to the camera. It was a way to be with them.”
Samp are now 16th in the League, one point above the drop, and should continue against Roma in the capital next weekend, if Serie A will go ahead.
