Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced names of 57 out of the 70 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. The announcement comes a day after the election committee of the party took place in Delhi which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah who is also the party president.Making an announcement at a press conference on Friday, senior leaders of the party emphasised that Delhi will witness a change in assembly elections and BJP will return to power on the work done by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the centre.
We are confident that BJP will form government in Delhi. Our agenda is positive and we are confident that the work done by union government will reach and benefit every home in the national capital,” said Manoj Tiwari, president BJP in Delhi and Member of Parliament (MP).
While campaigning in Delhi for the election has started, voting in all 70 constituencies will take place on 8 February and counting of votes is due to take place on 11 February. We have a winning team and we are confident that BJP will win the election. We have announced names of 57 candidates and the names of remaining 13 candidates will be announced soon,” said Tiwari addressing the media.
Among some of the candidates in the list is Kapil Mishra, former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who had quit the party. Mishra will contest from Model Town area. Among other candidates was Kapil Mishra to contest from Model Town, Vijender Gupta, former president of Delhi BJP who will contest from Rohini, Rekha Gupta to contest from Shalimar Bagh, Suman Kumar Gupta to contest from Chandni Chowk
The election of BJP is crucial because the ruling party has been out of power in Delhi since 1998. Its been almost 22 years that BJP has not been able to recover from its electoral loss in the national capital. However, the party has managed to win all 7 parliamentary seats of Delhi both in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and 2019 general elections.
