Milan new-boy Alexis Saelemaekers has admitted he didn’t know which position he would play until “I saw Davide Calabria was coming off” against Hellas Verona.
The Belgian came from Anderlecht on deadline day and was introduced during the 1-1 draw against the Gialloblu this weekend.
But the 20-year-old has revealed that he had problems understanding the guidelines given to him by coach Stefano Pioli.
“Initially, I was a bit tense. Especially when the coach gave me all the instructions in Italian and I didn’t quite understand them,” he revealed to Dhnet, according to Calciomercato. “To be honest, I didn’t even know where I had to play. Then I saw who came off.
“I understood that I was going to play as an attacking full-back, given that Verona were down to ten men.”
After his first minutes in the Rossoneri shirt, Saelemaekers is now determined to claim a spot in the starting line-up for his new club, before he added that Inter forward Romelu Lukaku has offered to help him settle in the city.
“My goal is to be a starter as soon as possible,” he added. “Next weekend, there’s the derby.
“Romelu Lukaku has already contacted me to tell me that we will meet. He wants to show me the best places in the city.”
