Steams annual Lunar New Year Sale kicked off on Thursday evening, with daily freebies, Year-of-the-Rat-themed backgrounds and emoticons, and, of course, plenty of discounted games.
Some of the most popular PC games of the last few years are on sale, including Slay the Spire, Resident Evil 2, Assassins Creed Odyssey, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Lots of downloadable content is on sale as well; theres even a section of the sale landing page that highlights discounted DLC for games that the user already owns.
As in previous years, customers earn tokens by shopping the sale, which can be redeemed for digital goodies like rat-themed chat stickers and homepage backgrounds as well as additional discounts. Steam also offers daily free tokens, which are activated by clicking a red envelope on the sales homepage once per day. (Traditionally, small red envelopes are filled with money and given to children as gifts during the Lunar New Year.)
A few other digital PC game marketplaces are throwing Lunar New Year sales of their own to compete with Steam. Fanatical, Green Man Gaming, and GOG are all running comparable deals, and both Fanatical and Green Man Gaming have additional one-day-only flash deals going throughout the weekend.
These Lunar New Year sales run through Jan. 27.
