Chadwick Boseman passed away at his home in Los Angeles with his wife and family by his side. He had been diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago and chose to keep his illness private.

In a statement, his family said: “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. 
“From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. 
“It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
Boseman’s iconic role as King T’Challa/Black Panther brought him global acclaim. He first appeared as the superhero in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and subsequently reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Boseman attended Howard University in Washington, DC and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Directing. He had numerous guest roles in series including Third Watch, Law & Order, CSI: NY and ER before being cast in a recurring role in Lincoln Heights.
His first starring role on the big screen came in the 2013 film 42, a biopic of pioneering African-American baseball player Jackie Robinson. He had previously portrayed another sports star, American Football player Floyd Little, in the 2008 film The Express, the story of college football hero Ernie Davis.

Boseman also starred as soul legend James Brown in the 2014 biopic Get On Up, and as crusading lawyer Thurgood Marshall in the 2017 biopic Marshall.
His other credits included sports drama Draft Day, the adventure Gods of Egypt, and the thriller 21 Bridges for Northern Irish director Brian Kirk.
