The number of people in Ireland to die with Covid-19 has risen to over 1,800 – after five more deaths were announced.
An additional 248 cases of the virus were also confirmed yesterday evening.
It comes amid ongoing concerns about increases in the incidence of the coronavirus in a number of counties.
The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has reported 29 deaths from Covid-19 this month. It takes the death toll here since the start of the pandemic to 1,802.
Dublin accounted for 104 or 42% of the new cases confirmed yesterday, while 37 of the cases were in Donegal.
Donegal became the second county after the capital to move to Level 3 restrictions yesterday.
The National Public Health Emergency Team is continuing to closely monitor a number of other counties with high incidence rates.
These include Cork, Galway, Wicklow, Kildare and Louth – amid concerns that the status of more counties may be escalated from Level 2.
However senior public health officials have said such scenarios are not inevitable if people take the appropriate action by adhering to the public health guidelines particularly by reducing their social contacts.
