This year’s frontrunners include “1917” and “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”

The nominations for the 2020 Oscars are in with Joker, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and 1917 leading this year’s nominees.
Joker, the Batman-adjacent comic book film, has 11 nominations including best picture, best actor for Joaquin Phoenix and best director for Todd Phillips. 1917,Once Upon a Time… and The Irishman all received 10 nominations.
1917, Once Upon a Time…, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Little Women, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit and Parasite make up the best picture field.
The announcement took place early Monday morning in Los Angeles in a presentation hosted by Insecure star Issa Rae and Star Trek’s Jon Cho.
The 92nd annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 9, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. For the second year in a row, there will be no host for this year’s ceremony.
This year’s Oscars were preluded by strong performances for Sam Mendes’ World War I drama 1917, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite at the Golden Globe Awards on January 5. 1917 won best drama and best director for Mendes. Once Upon a Time… won best musical or comedy and best supporting actor for Brad Pitt. Parasite won best foreign language film.
Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a drama for Joker, while Taron Egerton won best actor in a musical or comedy at the Globes. Best actress in a drama went to The Farewell star Awkwafina, making her the first actress of Asian descent to win the prize. Renee Zellweger won best actress in a comedy or musical for her portrayal of Judy Garland in biographical film Judy.
The awards feting continued Sunday night at the Critics’ Choice Awards where Once Upon a Time… won best picture and Parasite won best foreign language film. Mendes and Bong tied for best director, while Phoenix and Zellweger won best actor and actress respectively.
