White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham claimed that Rep. Adam Schiff was grandstanding when he said President Trump tried to threaten him.
Trump tweeted on Sunday morning that Schiff has not yet paid the price for his role in the impeachment process. Schiff, during an interview on Meet the Press soon after, said that he believed Trump intended the tweet to be a threat.
During an interview on MediaBuzz the same day, Grisham said she had not spoken to the president about his tweet but added that she believes Schiff is obsessed with Trump.
I think [Trump] means [Schiff] hasnt yet paid the price with the voters. He hasnt paid the price yet with the people of this country who see that he’s been lying and very obsessed and, quite frankly, it seems like hes having a little bit of a mental issue when you sit on the floor for hours and hours and hours. He is obsessed with this president and trying to take him down.
Grisham said Schiffs claim that Trump threatened him was ridiculous, adding, The fact that he said that was grandstanding.
Schiff led the impeachment managers while they delivered 24 hours of opening statements before the Senate related to the two articles of impeachment passed in the House. Trumps attorneys gave their rebuttal for two hours on Saturday, much of which was targeted at Schiff for embellishing parts of the phone call between Trump and Ukrainian leaders.
The House Intelligence Committee chairman also said Sunday that he does not regret reading a version of Trump’s call that was “at least part in parody.”
