With Destiny 2patch 2.7.1, Bungie added plenty of new files to the games database. Data miners often dig into these files to reveal potential content coming to the game. In the communitys most recent data mine for patch 2.7.1, frequent miner Ginsor from the Raid Secrets Discord found interesting strings of text that seem to confirm the name of Destiny 2s next season (Season of the Worthy) as well as the return of Trials of Osiris.
Next week, Destiny players will embark on a new, mysterious quest called the Empyrean Foundation. According to the data mine, players will restore the Lighthouse on Mercury through the foundation. A data-mined, in-game message then reads with the restoration of the Lighthouse complete, Trials of Osiris and more will return in Season of the Worthy.
Trials of Osiris was a fan-favorite PvP mode in the original Destiny. Players could form a group of three and battle against other Trials teams. Players could only lose up to three times before they needed to cash their Trials card into the Trials NPC: Brother Vance. Depending on the amount of wins (up to seven) players could get before the three loses, theyd receive powerful, unique rewards themed around Egyptian myth.
But the Lighthouse only came into play for the best Trials of Osiris players. If a team could earn seven wins without a single loss, they could travel to the Lighthouse for even more rewards. The top of the Lighthouse was a completely unique space in the original Destiny, and its the part of the Lighthouse players will likely rebuild during the Empyrean Foundation.
Early in Destiny 2s life, players could compete in Trials of the Nine, a recreation of Trials of Osiris, an activity that never hit the same high for PvP players. Bungie placed Trials of the Nine on hiatus in August 2018, and it has yet to make a return.
Its unclear if Trials of Osiris will finally appear in Destiny 2 next season (the beginning of March 2020). But many other data mines have proven accurate over the years, and Bungies already teased the return of Trials numerous times. Weve reached out to Bungie regarding the data mine, and will update this post if we hear anything back.
