Lautaro Martinez’s release clause expires on Tuesday and Inter hope that’ll be the trigger for him to shun Barcelona and sign a new, improved contract.
The Argentine has a clause worth €111m in his current deal, but it can only be activated by July 7 by clubs outside of Italy.
As Barca are struggling financially in the post-COVID landscape, they have been unable to offer the full amount, while Inter have no intention of negotiating the figure down.
According to Tuttosport, after the deadline passes on Tuesday, Inter will present their plans for the future to Lautaro Martinez, including an improved contract.
This would double his current salary, which stands at €2.5m per season plus performance-related bonuses.
The contract would also be extended from 2023 to 2024 and it’s possible they’ll aim to increase the release clause beyond €111m.
