Mikel Arteta has denied Arsenal are interested in signing Man City centre back John Stones.
The Gunners had been linked with a shock move for the England international, who was signed by the current Premier League champions in a £50million deal in 2016, earlier this week.
Arsenal are in need of an extra centre-back after losing Calum Chambers for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
John Stones has been linked with a move to Arsenal – but Arteta denied a deal will happen
Arteta told talkSPORT: John is a player I really liked and we followed him before we signed him when I was at City and I worked with him for many years and know him well.
Obviously when I look at centre-backs hes got many attributes I like from one, but we are not interested in him.
Speaking to talkSPORT ahead of Arsenals match with Sheffield United on Saturday – which is live on talkSPORT– Arteta also discussed Alexandre Lacazettes form.
The striker has now gone six games without a goal and has just six to his name all season.
Alexandre Lacazette has not scored in six games for Arsenal
Its a concern for me if he is concerned about it,” added Arteta. “In relation to his performances, I am really happy with him and the way he contributes to the team I am really happy.
Hes setting goals for the rest, hes creating situations for the rest of his teammates, his work out of possession has been phenomenal…
“Ge missed chances in those games that he could have put four or five goals together easily.
“That for him is a little bit strange but you have these up and downs. Im really happy with him and hes still going to be a very important player for us.

You can help him, you can talk to him, you can give him confidence but that ball has to end up in the net. Thats the best medicine for the strikers.
What we have to do it try and put Laca in positions where he can have as many opportunities to do that as possible in a game.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour says hed love the Gunners to sign John Stones from Manchester City
Arteta also discussed other topics ahead of the match, and here is the best of what he said…
Injury update
The doctors are still assessing him [Sead Kolasinac]. He had a normal session yesterday but had some discomfort.
He [Lucas Torreira] trained yesterday as well but still not 100 per cent. It was something related to his hip but hes a tough boy and hopefully he will be available.
On Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s suspension
Its been confirmed he will be suspended for three matches. Its a big shame because we know his intentions but we have to accept it.
He was very disappointed after the game. Hes been superb under me, working hard, scoring goals and hes probably our most important player.
I hope we can play better and win the games. Players have to step up. Its time to talk on the pitch and if they show theyre as good or better than him, they have a chance.
Aubameyang was shown a red card against Crystal Palace
On Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder
The work hes done is phenomenal. What I like about a manager is when I see his team is a real team and its very clear what hes trying to do.
Im a big admirer.
