I had a black friend in grades k-3, his dad was a doctor and they moved here from south Africa. He was my best friend and our parents were crazy close, but I noticed they were always like, timid? Hard to explain. In retrospect it was probably because they were used to whites being privileged over there.
I met him in 1988 ish I think? So all that shit was still going on. Mom told me years later that they moved here to get away from it.
I still have a Zulu warrior doll he gave me when he moved away. His family were zulus and they always gave their closest friends these toy Zulu warriors whenever they moved or what not. He moved in grade 3, I wish I could find him or contact him somehow, we were super close, and i would love to see what he looks like now, and how him and his family are doing.
