If youve tried using any of Animal Crossing: New Horizons online features recently, you may have stumbled upon a roadblock. Players everywhere are getting server communication errors that prevent online play.
As of this writing, you cant visit other Animal Crossing islands or open up your gates, nor give out Dodo codes for friends. When I tried to do so, my Switch displayed Error Code: 2219-2502 instead. The official Nintendo website says, This error code indicates an error occurred when connecting to the service, likely the result of a temporary service outage or a high volume of user access. The server issues seem to be game-specific rather than for Nintendo Online as a whole or at least, I was able to access the eShop and also see what my friends list was up to.
Based on social media posts, the servers have been down for about half an hour, though hopefully theyll be back soon.
What makes this a particular bummer is that, in the middle of social distancing measures, a lot of people are relying on Animal Crossing to get their socializing time in. Now we have to socially distance in New Horizons, too!
