Boris Johnson and his ministers have agreed a hardline stance on Brexit that will see them play Donald Trump off against EU leaders.
The prime minister has approved plans to go hell for leather for a trade deal with America, in an attempt to get leverage in talks with the EU.
The decision comes as Johnson tries to inject urgency into trade negotiations. He will make a set-piece speech in early February to set out his plans for life outside the EU.
On Brexit night itself, January 31, the prime minister will make a national televised address calling for the country to come together, while a countdown clock is projected on to No 10.
