Dries Mertens is in positive negotiations to sign a contract extension with Napoli, claim Sky Sport Italia, despite other proposals.
The Belgian’s current deal is due to expire in June, so he could already be talking to different clubs for a new experience as a free agent.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, Mertens is eager to remain at the Stadio San Paolo and talks are taking on a more positive tone in recent days.
The versatile 32-year-old striker has been linked with numerous other teams, including Inter, Everton, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
He joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2013 and has scored 118 goals in 304 competitive games for the Partenopei.
