Fiorentina confirmed Gaetano Castrovilli will be kept in hospital overnight for observation after feeling “disoriented,” but should return home tomorrow.
The midfielder suddenly stopped during the 0-0 draw with Genoa this evening and felt dizzy, with coach Beppe Iachini telling reporters afterwards the player “didn’t know where he was.”
He did not seem to have a knock to the head during the game, so was taken to hospital for tests.
A statement from the club late on Saturday night confirmed the player was “disoriented following a trauma that went unnoticed at the time.
“Castrovilli is currently under observation at the Careggi hospital and is expected to return home tomorrow.”
The referee deserves a great deal of credit here, as he seemed to realise something was wrong before anyone else and stopped play to call the Fiorentina medics on to the field.
