Network Ten’s newsroom will be forced to make do without some of its biggest names as the free-to-air broadcaster looks for increased savings.

The network will also employ a new national meteorologist.
These painful changes reflect the state of the media industry in recent years and the need for all media companies to achieve new efficiencies,” Ten director of news content Ross Dagan said.
While our viewers in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth will see some on-air changes, we will continue to produce local news and employ local reporters, camera operators and production staff in those cities.”
Among the other headline names leaving the network will be Brisbane newsreader Georgina Lewis and weather presenter Josh Holt, Perth newsreader Monika Kos and weather presenter Michael Schultz, and Adelaide newsreader Rebecca Morse and weather presenter Kate Freebairn.
The decision to make these changes was a very difficult one and I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to our friends and colleagues who will leave the network,” Mr Dagan said.
It is in no way a reflection of their talent, contribution or passion. They are exceptionally gifted people. We are incredibly proud of them and their work. There is no doubt they will be missed”
Ten, like most of the Australian media industry, has taken a heavy hit from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has seen advertising revenues fall off a cliff. News Corp, Foxel Seven, Bauer Media Australia, the ABC and more have all laid off staff since the beginning of the health crisis, and many more have reduced working hours.
“These decisions are not being made lightly, however they are essential to future-proofing our business,” ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand chief content officer and executive vice-president Beverley McGarvey said.
