The Texas Rangers, who are investigating the incident, said the investigators determined the actions of Shaun Lucas were not “objectionably reasonable.”

A Texas police officer has been arrested and charged with murder over the killing of Jonathan Price, an unarmed Black man.
Shaun Lucas was identified by the Texas Rangers as the officer who fatally shot Price after responding to a disturbance call in Wolfe City on Saturday night.
The Rangers, who are investigating the incident, said in a statement provided to Newsweek that investigators determined the officer’s actions that night were not “objectionably reasonable.”
Lucas responded to the call at the 100 block of Sante Fe Street for a “possible fight in progress” at around 8.24 p.m. on Saturday, the Rangers said.

“Officer Lucas made contact with a man, later identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Price, who was reportedly involved in the disturbance,” the statement continued.
“Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away. Officer Lucas deployed his TASER, followed by discharging his service weapon striking Price.”
Price was taken to Hunt Regional Hospital, where he later died.
After a preliminary investigation found Lucas’ actions were not justified, the Rangers charged him with murder and booked him into Hunt County Jail.
Lucas has since been transferred to another county and is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing the Price family, said Lucas’ arrest “didn’t happen quickly.”

“This didn’t happen quickly. It should [have] happened the day he murdered JP. John should still be here,” he wrote in posts on Twitter and Facebook.
“This did happen because this family fought for their son from the beginning and people worked hard both behind the scenes and in the public eye to make it happen. This is step one. Let’s see it through to justice.”
Price’s friends and family said he had been trying to defuse a domestic violence situation outside a Kwik Check gas station when he was killed.
Price had his “hands in the air, while a small town East Texas cop shot him once in the chest and then twice in the back,” Will Middlebrooks, a former professional baseball player who grew up with Price, wrote on social media.
“Why? Bc he was trying to break up a fight at a gas station… for some reason he was singled out. I’ll let you do the math.”

Merritt added on Facebook: “When police arrived, I’m told, he raised his hands and attempted to explain what was going on. Police fired Tasers at him and when his body convulsed from the electrical current, they ‘perceived a threat’ and shot him to death.”
Middlebrooks also set up a GoFundMe page to cover Price’s funeral expenses.
“Just being able to take this burden off of the mourning family’s hands is the least we can do,” he wrote on the page. “We just surpassed $50,000 in less than 24 hours,” he tweeted Monday. “Thank you for your love and compassion.”
